Secrets of Costa Rica

5 LGBT friendly places to visit in Costa Rica

Although we can certify that Costa Rica is a 100% friendly country (LGBT included), there are certain places that have attracted LGBT travelers in their trip to Costa Rica.

Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio was the first gay friendly beachtown, thanks in part to its gay friendly hotels, the first of their kind in Costa Rica.

This little paradise Costa Rica´s smallest National Park, three of the best Costa Rica beaches, gorgeous hotels and many of Costa Rica´s things to do such as kayaking, zip lining, catamaran, fishing and more. Manuel Antonio is located on a hill and so each hotel offers spectacular views.

Best time to visit: All Year Long except October (when it pours).

El Silencio Lodge

If you are craving for privacy with your partner, to debug from the city’s humdrum and instead enjoy a deliciously hot jacuzzi set on the outdoors of a cloud forest: El Silencio is definitely your kind of Costa Rica destination.

This boutique hotel attracts mainly couples and so it is one of the LGBT couples vacation spot in Costa Rica. It is located about 1.5 hour from the Juan Santamaria International Airport. Here you will enjoy wine tastings, nature hiking, spectacular waterfalls, and even some adrenaline: the canyoneering tour will take your breath away.

Best time to visit: all year long.

Arenal Volcano

Active for many years but silent for the past 4, this colossus still impresses us with its seniority and it is one of the most beautifyl volcanoes in Costa Rica. The town that was built on its outskirts boasts the longest zip line in Costa Rica and also the best Hot Springs in the country.

Imagine enjoying a high adrenaline tour during the day, then having a relaxing massage at the Spa to finally finish pampering yourselves at the Hot Springs. An exquisite combination for sure.

Best time to visit: all year long.

Punta Islita

One of Costa Rica boutique hotels, Punta Islita is located at the Guanacaste Province, right by the beach.

A sister property to El Silencio Lodge, Punta Islita features the same relaxed and romantic vibe, while offering a myriad of Costa Rica things to do. There is some great kayaking at sea and at the mangrove, a monkey quest, zip lining both at night time and during the day, and horseback riding to the top of the hill so that you have an open air massage while you are viewing the sunset.

Best Time of Year to visit: all year long.

Tamarindo and Langosta

If you are a surf lover or would simply like to try surfing lessons with your partners: Tamarindo is the place to be.

This surfer’s town offers plenty of boutique shops, restaurants and one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. When visiting Tamarindo, you may either stay at the end corner of the Tamarindo town or at the town of Langosta, only 3 minutes away by car from Tamarindo. Langosta boasts beautiful boutique hotels and gorgeous luxury houses by the sea.

There are many things to do here, but the sea related tours are the most impressive: fishing, mangrove kayaking and a fun sunset cataraman.
