Best Hotels in Costa Rica at Guanacaste

Guanacaste is Costa Rica’s sunniest and driest region. Luxury resorts and small lodges coexist, as well as long and beautiful beaches in yellow, white, gray and brown sanded coasts. Snorkeling and scubadiving in Costa Rica is spectacular and fishing is great as well.

Luxury Resorts by the beach

Although you may find luxury resorts any place in the world, we are happy to declare that a luxury resort in Costa Rica, even if it is part of an international chain, will still hold true to Costa Rican personality. So here they are:

  • Four Seasons Papagayo:  recently rated by Forbes as one of the winners of the 2016  5 stars hotel, this hotel may be part of the Four Seasons’ chain, but when Four Seasons fans come to Costa Rica they undoubtedly declare that this is the best they’ve ever visited because of the friendly and amazing service, among other perks

  • Andaz Papagayo by Hyatt: large resort in Costa Rica (at Papagayo) and yet, it feels like a Costa Rica boutique hotel. Service is intimate, food is the perfect fusion of typical Costa Rican food (chifrijo anyone) and international gourmet flavors, and the architecture is just breathtaking.

  • El Mangroove, by Autograph Collection: its groovy name suits it. The hotel feels like a lounge by the pool, the rooms are modern and fresh and the food is absolutely exquisite. Most probably, the best food you may taste at a resort in Costa Rica.

Fun things to do nearby:

A half or full day catamaran. The full day catamaran will take you to a secluded beach where you will descend for a BBQ lunch.

Costa Rica Fishing: both inshore and outshore.

Zip Lining at the Dry Forest.

Adventure Combo tours that include thermal springs. We love the one offered by Rio Perdido.

Turtle Nesting from October until December. Huge leatherbacks or green turtles.

Boutique hotels by the beach

Costa Rica boutique hotels are in the widest category of premium hotels you will find in Costa Rica. They are personal, intimate and usually offer daily concierge services, most of the amenities you will find at a luxury resort, and unparallel location.

  • Capitan Suizo: beachfront, 80s look, bohemian and 100% personal. Staff here is anything but stuffy. And the gardens are manicured to perfection. Monkeys visit the property almost every day.

These lodges may be 1 to 2 hours away from the beach, but they are a staple of our Guanacaste province and should definitely be included in a vacation.

  • Rio Perdido: it bares the name of the river that runs through it, Rio Perdido is a boutique lodge with a minimalist look within a large private property. The thermal springs that you will find here are 100% natural and the river turns light blue from the volcanic minerals.

 Fun things to do nearby:

Thermal springs and mud bath.

A combo adventure tour: zip lining, tarzan swing and rappeling.

Mountain biking: for all levels. Bikes to be rented are of the highest quality and profile.
