The drive to Rio Perdido will take about 2 hours. Your lodging at Rio Perdido Hotel will include unlimited access to 100% natural thermal springs river. Rio Perdido (Lost River) is tainted with a light blue color and it is surrounded by Dry Tropical Forest.

Try one of the hotel´s many great cocktails at the pool bar.

San Jose and its whereabouts for the bird watchers, coffee fans and nature lovers

If you prefer to sleep at one location but still experience nature, here are some fun things to do on a 3 day itinerary if you are lodging at San Jose.

Day 1. Arrival into Juan Santamaria International Airport

Lodging at Xandari Resort makes all the sense in the world: the hotel is close by the Juan Santamaria International Airport and the grounds are so stunning that if you arrive early enough that there is still light out, you will be able to hike to the 5 waterfalls that surround the hotel.

Day 2. Bird Watching, Poas volcano, a Coffee Plantation and Peace Waterfalls

Start your day at 5 a.m. for some amazing birdwatching at Xandari property. This is a guided tour throughout the property.

The Poas Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica and it is only 30 minutes away from Xandari. At 8 a.m. we will pick you up and drive you to Poas to see its huge green crater and walk up to its blue lagoon.

Then, we will visit a Coffee Plantation to both learn about coffee and taste the different types we plan. And at about 11 a.m., we will visit Peace Waterfalls for a taste of the wild. At Peace Waterfalls you will visit an aviary, a hummingbird garden, the butterfly garden, a frog house and you will hike down to the waterfalls in the midst of the rainforest.

Day 3. Wild nature safari nearby San Jose

Only an hour and a half away from Xandari you will find the scenic Guacalillo mangrove where wildlife abounds. Expect to see red macaws overflying your boat, sloths, monkeys, many bird species and reptiles.

This is a great way to add to your ecosystem experience in Costa Rica.
